Some of the ways people sabotage their cases are by posting about their case or injury on social media, making statements that the other side can use against them, engaging with the insurance company on their own, failing to follow the doctor’s orders, and receiving their treatments inconsistently. Sometimes, clients disappear—the lawyer loses contact with them, or the doctor loses contact with them, which leaves tremendous gaps in their treatment. These clients are not available to take advantage of opportune moments in the life of the case.

The best advice would be connect with an attorney and medical provider early in the case and keep those representatives up-to-date on your treatment and with the progress of your case. When the treatment is concluded, notify your attorney so the attorney can begin the settlement negotiation process. Overall, you should be engaged with your case and keep the professionals who are handling the case and your care updated.

What Is the Best Advice You Have for Clients Who Are Going Through the Personal Injury Claim and Recovery Process?

My advice is basically to live their life to the fullest extent that their injury allows them to, and leave the legal part to me, their attorney. Once they’ve signed that retainer, all they are responsible for is getting better, seeking the care that’s been recommended, keeping me informed, and following my instructions as the case progresses. At the end, I will make a recommendation as to settlement or whether the case needs to take the next step and go into a lawsuit.

What Is It That Sets You and Your Firm Apart in Representing the Injured Persons in Personal Injury Claims?

There are a couple of things that set us apart. First, we’re not a volume office. We don’t handle every case that comes through the door. We scrutinize our cases so that we handle only the highest quality ones. Second, we are available to our clients; in fact, one of the things that I pride myself on is that my clients can always reach me. If a client calls and says that he needs to speak to me, I will always get back in touch with him, and I have a very capable staff that can handle the majority of things a client will generally have inquiries about. When people come to me after having been with another attorney, the single most frequent reason they give for leaving their attorney is that their former attorney was inaccessible. As I said, if a client wants to reach me, they can always either contact me in the office or leave a message, and I will get back to them the same day or the next day at the latest.

Third, I have been handling personal injury matters for over 40 years. I have been recognized numerous times by my peers for excellence in the practice of personal injury matters.

Fourth, in the past, I have handled personal injury matters on behalf of insurance companies. I am therefore aware of the strategies and practices that are employed by the insurance representatives to pay less than the value of an injury, and am experienced in opposing those strategies and practices.
