A trial lawyer since 1977, Clarence Barry-Austin has tried more than 250 jury cases to conclusion. His areas of expertise include personal injury matters of all kinds, i.e., auto accidents, slip/trip and fall cases, medical malpractice, products liability, police brutality, and other civil rights violations. He has handled these cases both on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants. He has handled cases on behalf of insurance companies (i.e., Allstate, Palisades), and New Jersey public entities as well.

Barry-Austin has been granted designation as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court. That designation has been provided to less than 5 percent of the attorneys admitted to practice in New Jersey. He has also been awarded the highest rating (AV Preeminent) by Martindale-Hubbell, the nation’s premier legal rating publication. In addition, he has taught litigation practice at Seton Hall Law School and Montclair State University. He is also a qualified mediator pursuant to New Jersey court rules.

Clarence Barry-Austin has been named to the New Jersey Super Lawyers list every year since its inception. Each year, no more that five (5) percent of the lawyers in New Jersey are selected. The selection for this esteemed list are made by the research team at Super Lawyers, which is a service of the Thomson Reuters, Legal division based in Eagan, Minn. Each year, the research team at Super Lawyers undertakes a rigorous multi-phase selection process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluation of candidates by the attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area and a good-standing and disciplinary check.

Barry-Austin is also active in the New Jersey legal community. He is a member and past president of the Garden State Bar Association, the oldest and largest African-American bar association in New Jersey. He is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association, the New Jersey Association for Justice.

Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Barry-Austin is active in Guyanese and Caribbean affairs in the New Jersey/New York area. He is a member of the Caribbean Bar Association and is legal counsel to the Caribbean American Business Association, a New Jersey organization of Caribbean professionals and businesspeople. On the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the independence of the nation of Guyana, he was presented with a proclamation from the city of New York recognizing his accomplishments as a trial attorney, and his contributions to the Guyanese community.
